What is Dream Walking?
Dreams are an evolutionary mechanism designed to help us process memories and information, psychologically and emotionally grow, expand spiritually, and act as a gateway to our deepest parts of self.
When we become an active observer of our dreams we connect to ourselves in a new way to further develop conscious awareness. One great way to activate our connection with dreams is to incorporate a dream walk into your bedtime routine!
The phrase “dream walking” has different meanings for different people and practices, but I define it as simply a conscious, intentional walk into one’s personal dream space.
I like to think of it as a visualization while falling asleep, often guiding myself down a woodland path and into a prairie that represents my personal dream space. But you can also practice it as a meditation, self-guided recording, or even a series of physical movements like stretching or yoga before bed.
The key to a successful dream walk is the power of your intention.
Intention is everything in the dream space. On any given night, your dreams will usually flow on their own and reflect what you’re currently experiencing in waking life. However, like lucid dreaming, dream walking can help guide you toward a specific goal in the dream space.
How to Dream Walk
After completing my evening brain dump (an important part of my dreamwork practice), I think of the particular goal I want to accomplish and explore in my dreams. I ask myself what the space looks and feels like that holds my particular goal and begin to build a mental image of it.
Depending on what I’m exploring I might find myself in an area of my home, outside in a natural space, flying across the stars, or even deep within the Earth!
Then, with the imagery of my destination in mind and my intention set, I begin walking down a path in my mind’s eye toward the space I envisioned.
I continue thinking of moving down the path toward the space as long as possible. Sometimes I’ll fall asleep on the way and will hopefully continue that mental walk in my dream space to the destination but sometimes I’ll reach the destination before I fall asleep. In either case, just go with it and see where your mind takes you!
The 4 Benefits of Dream Walking
The following 4 benefits of dream walking are not an exhaustive list but can give you an idea of why this practice can be helpful. You may find additional benefits as you explore what dream walking feels like for you personally.
Strengthening Your Internal Relationship With Self
I don't take many selfies, pardon the phone lol... but look at dat bebe!
I Have Never Felt Lighter
Look at how cute my baby is! OMG I can't even... Lyron is growing strong and is still in that 99th percentile at 5 months old. I get an arm workout everyday. We like to say he has a honky tonk badonkadonk 😂
Anyways, I wanted to keep you up to date on my health situations as we have some news. (If you missed my last email on that you can get caught up here).
For my physical health we've gone through a lot of tests and got a procedure done to take some samples of my insides (it was just a colonoscopy but that doesn't sound glamorous lol). We're still waiting on some results but I may have an IBD called microscopic colitis.
Thankfully, it's usually manageable with lifestyle changes and medication during flare-ups. I'll keep you posted on what we find out.
As for my mental health... the SSRI is working!
I was honestly pretty nervous about starting an SSRI. I had all the questions everyone usually asks like, "will it change who I am?" and "will it affect my personality?"
Well, at the suggestion of my doctors and with the encouragement of my team (my spirit guides), I started one... and it has been LIFE CHANGING in the best way!
I have never felt more free of the traumas in my past.
I've been living pretty well since doing a lot of psychological and emotional work to better my life but, at the end of the day, the body remembers things too and that was the part that was still stuck.
All of the psychological, emotional, and spiritual work was helpful but could only take me to a point.
My physical body was still holding onto the memory of many difficult moments I've lived. Every time I became anxious my body reacted with the intensity of the worst case scenario which, for me, is pretty bad (childhood sexual abuse, PTSD from mortar fire in Afghanistan, etc.).
Even though my mind has learned how to relax, my physical body is still working through those things. And having a baby is the most physically stressful event the human body naturally experiences. It heightened everything else that had been sitting below the surface.
So the anxiety locked in my physical body needed a physical support.
Enter the SSRI.
FINALLY, my head feels quiet. The ruminating thoughts of postpartum OCD are minimal and my anxiety and depression are only a whisper in the wind.
I am free to ENJOY my life.
I honestly didn't realize until just a few weeks ago when it was really kicking in that I haven't been fully living.
And now I am.
Holy shit what a difference this makes!
I don't feel like it changed my personality at all. I feel completely myself for the first time... maybe ever?!
All the SSRI did was quiet the parts of my Construct that were still stuck in the traumas of my past.
I feel like I can truly enjoy being a mom now. I'm so happy and in love with my little boy it's honestly amazing. I never knew people could feel like this. ❤️
My husband has noticed a difference too. Literally all of us are happier and he's so glad that I decided to give it a try. When I describe what I'm feeling to him now he confirms, yes, he has always felt that way too. This is what a non-traumatic human experience can feel like.
And it's amazing!
The necklace Brandon got made for me ❤️
Speaking of my husband, Brandon... this man is the most wonderful partner in the whole world. He got this beautiful necklace made for me.
It's the Lyra constellation (Lyron's namesake), with 2 garnets for Lyron (January baby), 2 emeralds for Brandon and I (May Geminis), and an amethyst for the first baby we lost to miscarriage early last year 😭❤️
I 1000% cried when I opened it. The thought he put into this... wow!
So, as an overall health update: we're getting answers on my physical health but psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually I'm surrounded by so much incredible love and care that I am soaring.
I hope you're all doing well or at least finding some bright points in the world around you. Remember, your dreams are there to help you and if you have any questions or want to submit a dream for my column, just hit reply and send them my way.
May you all find joy this week, with grace, and in the perfect way.

Dearest Waking Dreamer #7: Tattoos, Moon Phases, and Falling Asleep In A Dream
Dear Mary,
Your dream is so magical! Not only do you fall asleep within the dream and experience a false awakening (dream-ception), you also have a tattoo of the moon cycles!
Mind blown. 🤯
Additionally, the waking-life nudges about your 2025 watercolor, the word "transformation," and the Carl Jung quote all help shape the context of the dream and really lean into the intuitive symbolism of the moon cycles.
I'm so excited to dive into this dream with you...
Let's break it down!

The Weave
In the beginning of the dream you find yourself relaxing in the glider on the patio while receiving a shoulder and neck massage. This scene most likely depicts the waking-life concept the dream is exploring: how you receive what is offered to you.
In the dream you receive a massage, a method of relaxation and tension relief. You don't see who is giving you the massage so I think the dream is more imparting the concept as a whole than a relationship to any individual person.
The massage is so relaxing that you fall asleep in the dream, followed by a false awakening.
False awakenings often indicate a deep-dive into the self for intense personal reflection. It shows me that you are a reflective person and are willing to look under the surface at the parts of yourself that may not wish to be seen. The level of introspection represented by a false awakening is intense and critical to developing soul-level awareness...

Dream Notes from Meg BartlettMay 25, 2026 Did you miss me the last two weeks? My body apparently wanted to spend Mother's Day morning in the emergency room which was followed four days later by another crisis... and then I got my son's cold because he started daycare. Rest assured, I'm ok and have been on the mend but I want to talk about my experience because when I was in the thick of it I really needed someone who knew what I was experiencing. Please note that this is not a typical Dream...
